Many
of us always wondered when would Ecommerce arrive in the country back in the
early days of Ecommerce. It was an option mostly available to 1st
world to 2nd world countries, initially. Before, a lot of us were
skeptic about trusting online malls since it didn’t have a good reputation. A
lot of the opportunist took advantage of it like scammers. Evidently, it gave
online shopping a bad reputation. Good thing that it all changed last year when
website like Lazada arrived in the country. Actually, competition in online
malls started to show up and online shopping started to be noticed by local
online users ever since they came into the picture in the Philippines.
Ecommerce was actually slow in growth a year before they have arrived in the
Philippines. The local online community never considered online shopping as
their option in the past. Second hand local online users usually prefer items
on local online classified websites when they want to buy something.
Typically,
customers would usually go to traditional malls if they want buy anything brand
new. It's no surprise to anyone since traditional offline malls are usually the
place we go to when we want to buy something growing up. We actually need to
realize that online shopping can reserve our time and money. How can online
users benefit from doing online shopping instead? If local consumers opt for
online shopping, they can do wherever and whenever they want. Customers will no
longer need to visit location traditional malls saving them money on transport
expense. It is one of the issues that the Philippines Online Shopping Mall was
facing when they established their online mall website in the country. It was
actually hard for any online mall to tap the untapped online community of the
country.
A
lot of the reasons is because of majority of the population don't possess their
own credit card. We are just used to not trusting online transactions
immediately. Online frauds and scams also happen globally, which we are all
aware of. The industry of Ecommerce in the country is now on the verge of
rising as an online industry. Despite only having more than a year of operation
under its belt, Lazada had already established its brand on the local online
scene. They even showed up on TVC at top local channels during their primetime
to show how credible they are to their customers.
So
how did they solve this Ecommerce barrier in the Philippines? They offered an
alternative payment called Cash on Delivery or C.O.D. It's a online payment
option that is not offered by online stores usually. Actually, it's a payment
method that is quite risky for any online business. This payment method doesn’t
require customers to pay them upfront. Once orders are delivered, that's the
only time customers are required to pay in cash. With this, customers won't
need to worry about their money getting scammed. This is to ensure that scams
and frauds won't happen if they want to deal with them.
