Lazada: How to make an impact for the Local Ecommerce

Nowadays, conventional shopping has shifted dramatically where Filipinos have an alternative option for the shopping needs. Gone are days when people go to their favorite local malls to buy something they want. Sure it was part of out lifestyle where malls are venue for us to enjoy shopping with family and friends. However as our technology evolved, more offline activities that we used to do can now be done online in this digital modern era.  Whether it may be online communication, shopping and etc., it made our lives way easier now than before. As for online shopping goes, it just started to grow last year. I think it happened when website like lazada.com.ph was launched in our country. They are actually a venture launched across South East Asia, which is under the umbrella of the huge Internet company based in Germany, Rocket Internet They are launched across the five key countries of South East Asia: Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Malaysia. This was actually a surprising move by Rocket Internet since South East Asia is not really recognized for having a high Ecommerce Industry market. But then on the brighter side, there’s also not much of a competition. Before Lazada’ arrival in the Philippines, only local online classifieds and group websites were available to the local Internet users. But since their arrival, the Ecommerce industry in South East Asia changed dramatically.

Nowadays, various online shopping malls can now be found everywhere online. Although we are still adjusting (or some probably have already adjusted to the online shopping lifestyle in the country) its pretty amazing to look back on how Ecommerce grew in our country overnight. Their key in making a huge impact besides their massive and aggressive online marketing campaigns, which I’m pretty sure most of us have already seen online, is how they packaged their online shopping service to Filipinos. Given that they are aware that majority of the population are neither non-credit cardholders nor Paypal account users, conventional online payment may not be enough in order to penetrate the consumer market. So what they did is offer a very risky yet every high rewarding alternative payment method. This payment method is what they called Cash on Delivery or simply C.O.D. which allows anyone to order from their website and pay in cash instead. So how does it work? Well its name speaks for itself. Any local customers can go to their website to shop for whatever they want and not worry about paying online since they can just pay in cash once their order delivered at their homes.

Customers can simply just go to the lazada.com.ph website and order it online but pay in cash. The good thing about this setup is that customers won’t be required to pay right away. They can pay as their order is handed over to them in real time. This saves the customer’s worry about getting scammed online since they don’t need to pay up front. The reality of this setup is that Lazada is taking more of the risk. It just shows that Lazada wants to prove to their customers that they can be trusted and that they are willing bend over backwards just to prove their point to their valued customers.
