Lazada: Boosting the Local E-Commerce Economy

There is no doubt that the local e-commerce industry is experiencing a great boost nowadays. As the internet continues to permeate the day to day habits of Filipinos, more and more consumers are turning to the World Wide Web for their various whims and needs. In my case, I trust only a handful of sites. One of them is www.lazada.com.ph.

Indeed, this site is of great help to the local e-commerce industry. This is true not just for shoppers like me, but also for the online entrepreneurs. Here are some of the reasons why.

Local products promotion

For one, Lazada is the sole international shopping site that I encountered which sells local products. An example would be the screen grab below. These are just some of the many books by local authors which are sold in the site. There are local children’s books, literature, and even non-fiction works.

This is great for the promotion of local products. As more and more consumers do their online shopping, they will also become better exposed to local products which are just as good, if not better, than the ones from international artists and manufacturers.

More than that, the site also provides a break for the local online and offline entrepreneurs. The fact is, it can be quite difficult for business executives out there. But with the help of a big and reliable site like this one, the task becomes much easier and faster. In fact, I remember there was a time when the site even had an ad seeking local entrepreneurs who want to sell their products and services in the site.

Purchasing power

The Lazada online store also gives a helping hand in terms of boosting the purchasing power of Filipino shoppers. One reason for this is the low cost of the products for sale in the site. It actually has items for every budget. Whether you want to splurge or you are tight for money, this site has everything you need.  Not only that, there are also huge discounts available; as well as numerous perks and freebies.

Add to that the flexible payment terms. For instance, if I do not have enough cash or credits when I placed my order for a certain item, I can just pay for it once the package is delivered. This is through the cash on delivery payment method.

With that, more consumers are able to buy the things that they want or need. And as my former economy professor told me that when the people invest more money by buying products, that actually increases their purchasing power. Not to mention, this is also good for the whole of the e-commerce industry.

All original products

Last but certainly not the least, this site sells only 100% original products. There are no room for fake items or imitations. And as you may know, piracy is one of the key factors that kill a lot of industries in the Philippines. And the internet is also among those blamed.

But with this site, authentic products are the ones promoted. This then helps for a livelier local economy—online or offline.
