In
the Philippines, shopping online has become one of the go-to activities of many
Filipinos whenever they connect online nowadays. Initially, “Pinoys” as what
the people in the country are widely referred to, mostly watch Youtube videos,
communicate to their friends on Facebook whenever they are online, play online
network video games and some prefer doing the traditional online activity which
is reading news and information. However, the past few years have drastically
changed as it also included online shopping as another source of activity for
many local online users. It started when online malls like Lazada was
introduced to the local online market. Soon, other online malls showed up from
nowhere and gave the online consumers a lot to choose from.
Ideally,
it is almost similar to what is happening in traditional malls where we have a
variety to choose from. From our point of view, having more options is to our
advantage as we can sort out which online mall offers the best deal and the
services that suit our preferences and demands. Looking back, Ecommerce was a
very unpopular online industry in the Philippines. At the same time, online
shopping was actually not a highly regarded option for most users as well. The
local online users are more open in dealing at local online classified websites
when they want to buy second hand items. Traditional mall are usually the go-to
source of customers who wants to buy brand new items. This should be no
surprise to us as we were raised by our parents going to traditional offline
malls when we need to shop.
Thinking
of online shopping, we can actually save more time and energy if we choose it
over traditional shopping. So how can these help us in our shopping needs? They
can do online shopping wherever they find most suiting for them. It can
actually save consumers more money on gas expense since they don't need to go
location of traditional malls. This is a shopping woe that Lazada wanted to
solve for the local online customers in the country. It was also a challenge
for them on how they can tap the untapped market in online. It was probably due
majority of the population no owning a credit card, which is the most common
payment method in online. It's just that we also don't trust so easily
especially when it involves money transactions. It's no secret that we know the
existence of online scams and frauds.
Nowadays,
the local Ecommerce is beginning to make noise in the online space. It is
almost over a year now that the Philippines’ Online Shopping Mall started its
operation in the country yet they already achieved so much becoming one of the
leading online malls in the country. Its recent appearance on TVC from top
local TV networks during primetime just show how legit and credible they are to
the local online customers. For an industry that had a long way to go to
becoming one of the top grossing business ventures in the country today, Lazada
definitely contributed to its growth.
